Dana T. Haynes
Public Policy Chair
Dana Haynes-Powell is a native New Yorker, where she found her will to fight for justice. She started her journey in healthcare as a Registration-Admitting clerk in the Emergency Department at Washington Hospital Center. From there, she worked in utilization authorization and review for MAMSI Life and Health, provider relations for Aetna, medical billing for INOVA Health System, cancer coding and research for Westat, investigated fraud, waste, and abuse as a Special Investigator for Coventry Healthcare’s government employee health plans, and Senior Special Investigator for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. She is currently working as a Senior Reimbursement Analyst for CareFirst, where she analyzes new and existing provider reimbursement arrangements to interpret the cost of care, and recently, she took on the task of writing the policies that show how CareFirst determine how services and supplies are reimbursed. Along this journey, not only did she learn about the different facets of healthcare, but she saw the disparities among those who needed care, and those providing the care, and vowed to fight for equity and justice ever since.
Dana holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management from Regis University and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Human Development with a minor in Sociology from Howard University. Dana likes to work out at the gym, as well as encourage others to work out, and not to just do it for the results on the outside but do it for the positive results on the inside because that is what really counts to staying healthy.
