Meet & Greet
The NAHSE Baltimore Chapter kicked off 2018 with a Meet & Greet hosted at the Turner Concourse of Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday, February 22nd. The event brought together professionals and students alike, for a joyous night of music, dining, and networking. Maha Sampath, President of the NAHSE Baltimore Chapter, commented on the ways in which the chapter will remain true to the NAHSE Vision, “to Educate, Empower, and Engage,” to address social determinants of health and advocate for the medically underserved communities of Baltimore. This vision includes hosting noteworthy annual events such as the 4th Annual Women’s Forum, the Summer Internship, the Regional Conference, and the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland & NAHSE Symposium. In true chapter of the year fashion, NAHSE Baltimore also announced innovative programming for 2018. This summer, for the first time, the chapter will host a Men’s Forum that coincides with Father’s Day and a Regional Case Competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Meet & Greet was an exceptional event that was made even more robust through special remarks from Catherine Pugh, Mayor of Baltimore, and Chief Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Russell, the Chief of the Community Collaboration Division for Baltimore’s Police Department.
Mayor Pugh and Chief Russell emphasized that the role of healthy communities is the role of us all. In order to bridge the gap between healthcare and the community we must build relational equity. We must understand the community, listen to the community, and involve them in the healing process. Their remarks deeply resonated with the persons of the event, especially those individuals who NAHSE Baltimore honored for their contribution to excellence in management, diversity & inclusion, and advocacy. The event culminated with a celebration of Ms. Diane Bell-Mckoy, President & CEO of Associated Black Charities, Dr. Felicia Hill-Briggs, Senior Director at Johns Hopkins HealthCare, Mr. Joe Jones, Founder & CEO of Center for Urban Families, Ms. Debbie Rock, CEO & Founding Director of LIGHT Health & Wellness Comprehensive Services Inc., and Mr. Terrell Williams and Mr. Melvin Wilson, Co-Directors of Turnaround Tuesday.
The NAHSE Baltimore Chapter welcomes 2019 and looks forward to positively influencing individuals, communities, and the healthcare landscape.
